Koala Painting

Koala 14.04.2016

£100 + P&P

Hi everyone – so sorry for disappearing for what feels like years and years. I have no excuses except work, work, work. I felt a massive creative block recently but I’m hoping that I can get back to painting soon. The warm, sunny weather does wonders.

I hope you like this painting. It’s my first attempt at a koala, which I find surprising given my love for Australia. I did it as a sister painting to my ‘possum’ painting a few years ago, which was one of my first ever paintings.

I hope you are all doing well and enjoying your 2016!

Happy belated Easter, everyone! In the spirit of spring, here is my newest painting. I just fancied having a bit of fun with flowers. This is acrylic on a 24 x 30cm stretched canvas. If you are interested in a similar painting with different colours, please let me know.

Forest Green

£75 + P&P

I completed this recently, as I discovered that I’d sold all my tree paintings! As my favourite colour of all time is green, I was excited about this one. As usual, it’s acrylic paint, and it’s on a 24x30cm stretched canvas.

Please get in touch if you’re interested in a tree painting, but you’d prefer one in another colour or size.

Art of the Week #33: Martin Heine

Good afternoon, one and all. I’ve found a new artist and I’m obsessed with his work – I’m sure you’ll see why. This week I’m very happy to share with you “Atlantis” by Martin Heine.

Atlantis is an acrylic painting on a 100x70cm stretched canvas. I love the use of colour in this painting, particularly the different shades of blue and the way they contrast with the red. The patterns and shapes are mesmerising, and I get the impression it’s kind of like an ink-blot; everyone will see something unique in this painting.

Martin takes his inspiration from the unique style of biological metamorphic fantasy lifeforms, and utilises sea creatures, dynamic colour and ocean waves to create a bridge between abstract and surrealism. He says that he was very much influenced by Dali, Picasso and Guadi when he was younger, but was endlessly frustrated with himself when he couldn’t quite paint in their styles. To his surprise, he got a lot of heartfelt compliments about his own distinct style, and thankfully he learned to accept and develop his own way of painting.

Art of the Week #32: Blair Logan

I have a good feeling about March. There are so many beautiful paintings out there. I’m particularly excited about this one, “Asia Girl” by the talented Blair Logan.

This painting is acrylic on a 30×24 inch canvas. I was drawn into the image through the girl’s eyes, and loved the abstract use of colour on her face. Just by looking at it, you can appreciate the amount of work and dedication that has gone into creating the painting. It is currently for sale for NZ$550 plus postage and packaging.

Blair’s artistic style is inspired by faces; the many billions of individual faces, ad how each of them has a unique story to tell. This particular painting was inspired by the peaceful, inquiring look of positive expectancy in the girl’s eyes.

Art of the Week #31: Susan Sparks

February is drawing to a close – this year seems to be flying by at an unbelievable rate. I can’t believe that earlier this month I was in St Lucia with warm weather, beaches and unlimited cocktails. Thankfully, there are a few things here to keep me happy, including this week’s piece, the Great Dividing Range by Australia’s Susan Sparks.

I was attracted to this piece for obvious reasons – it’s hypnotic and the detail is stunning. Although I’m normally obsessed with vibrant colour, I love the simple monochromatic nature of the great Dividing Range. It is graphite pencil on cotton paper, 560mm x 830mm, and is inspired by a mountain range that runs the length of Australia’s coast. It is available to buy for $3,100 AUD.

Susan would describe her artistic style as “contemporary natural history illustration”. After an astounding nine years of full-time study, Susan is only a few months from finishing her doctorate of Natural History Illustration from the University of Newcastle.

To see more of Susan’s amazing works of art, please visit her Facebook page, her follow her on Twitter or have a look at her website.

Art of the Week #30: Vandana Mehta

I’m back! I’m really looking forward to promoting more artwork in 2016. If you see anything that really strikes you, please send me a message with a photo and a link to the artist’s Twitter/Facebook account and I’ll be more than happy to check it out.

This 12×12 inch painting, called Cityscapes, was painted by Texas-based artist Vandana Mehta. She is a self-taught artist who likes to explore various cityscapes and depict how they are full of life, drama and action. What drew me to this painting was (as I interpret it) the blend of the colourful city lights with the night sky. I love the abstract nature of the painting and especially the reflection of the buildings in the water.

To see more of Vandana’s work, visit her Twitter account, her Facebook page and her website.

Back and ready to get artsy

DSC_2990

Hello one and all! I’ve come back! Tempting as it was to remain in St Lucia, I’ve been drawn back to the UK and the freezing cold! Sorry for the lack of content but I was busy getting married in the sun and getting my wedding dress covered in sand. I enjoyed every single second and the gorgeous tropical weather really did wonders to refresh and inspire me. Hopefully sometime soon I’ll be painting stacks of canvases and receiving plenty of orders for custom paintings. If you or anyone you know is interested, please let me know – helping my bank account recover would be most welcome 😉

I’m resuming the Art of the Week segment this coming Friday and I’m exciting as ever. I’d love to do more in 2016 to promote fellow artist’s work in any way I can. If you have an idea, please message me.

Sockette Gallery for Emerging Artists

Hi everyone! I’m very excited to say that I now have an exhibition up and running in the art gallery at Loughborough Town Hall. Specifically, I’m upstairs at the Sockette Gallery, for emerging artists. Everyone at the hall was amazingly friendly and helpful, and putting the paintings up was an exciting experience.

The paintings are there until April and if you are in the area, I’d love you to pop by and have a look. Tell me what you think! Let’s hope there are plenty more exhibitions in the future.
